Important Health Notice: Rabid Bat Detected in Fort Meade

Dear Fort Meade Residents,

We want to inform you about a serious health matter that affects our community. On December 20th, a bat was captured and impounded in the 200 block of Oak Avenue. Unfortunately, we have recently received confirmation that this bat tested positive for rabies on December 27th.

Given the potential risks associated with rabies, we urge all residents to take necessary precautions:

1. Have Your Pets Tested: If your pets were outdoors during this time and may have had any contact with wildlife, please consult your veterinarian for testing and guidance.

2. Monitor Your Pets and Family: Keep an eye out for any unusual behavior in your pets or wildlife in the area. Signs might include aggression, disorientation, or excessive salivation.
