For the second straight season, Polk State Basketball is 1-0. The Eagles dominated their opener on Friday night with a 95-63 victory over Victory Rock Prep.
Polk State raced to a big early lead and never looked back. It led 53-20 at halftime and led by as many as 49 points in the rout.
Cole White and Karl Knighten Jr. each finished with double-doubles in the victory. Knighten led the Eagles with 19 points while shooting 4-for-8 from deep and grabbing 10 rebounds. White shot 7-for-9 from the field, tallying 14 points and 10 rebounds.
In total, 11 players scored for Polk State. In his debut, Kellen Cashman added 10 points.
Defensively, Polk State held Victory Rock Prep to just 27% from the field. Nathan Andrice finished with six blocked shots. Ty Owens led the way with three steals.
With the win, Polk State improved to 6-2 in season openers under eighth-year Head Coach Brandon Giles. The Eagles will take on Mid-Florida Academy on Wednesday. The contest will take place on the campus of Webber International University.
