Davenport Man Convicted of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree with a Firearm
Porfirio Candelario, 43, was convicted by a Polk County Jury of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree while using a firearm, discharging the firearm, and causing great bodily harm to the victim. On March 2, 2022, Candelario walked from the Home Suites Hotel to a nearby Sunoco in Davenport, where he knew the victim had his car wash business. Candelario immediately approached the victim, got into his face, then shot the victim in the stomach with a silver firearm. Candelario fled the scene and attempted to discard evidence, hide the firearm, and conceal himself in another occupant’s room, but he was quickly apprehended by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. He is scheduled to be sentenced on September 23, 2024 and faces a minimum of 25 years to life in Florida State Prison under Florida’s 10/20/Life Laws. State Attorney Brian Haas thanks Assistant State Attorney’s Monica Smith and Dakota Griffenkranz and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office for their work on this case.
