Crime Suppression Unit arrests drug dealer

The Highlands County Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression Unit members wrapped up a four-month investigation and took another drug dealer off the streets Monday when they executed a search warrant at an Avon Park home and arrested 43-year-old James Leroy Hulen.

CSU arrested Hulen in the front yard of his home on Prospect Ave. in Avon Park as he was returning home with more than 28 grams of methamphetamine in his possession, which he admitted he was planning to sell. Inside the home, the found a loaded handgun, a glass methamphetamine pipe and a small amount of cocaine.

Hulen, a 10-time convicted felon, is facing charges of armed trafficking of methamphetamine, possession of more than 14 grams of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession of a structure/vehicle known to traffic drugs and possession of drug equipment.

Note: Not all arrests result in convictions. Everyone is considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
