The Webber International Men’s Beach Volleyball team opened up their season at the USA Volleyball Men’s Beach Collegiate Challenge over the weekend. The Warriors competed well, sending three teams into pool play, while sending one to the finals.
Carson Barnes and Ayden Keeter went 3-0 in their pool play matches, beating Vassar’s third team 21-9 and 21-12, beating Stevenson’s third pair 21-7 and 21-7, and beating a combined team 21-14 and 21-12. In the single elimination tournament, Barnes and Keeter won their first three matchups to set up a duel in the finals. After fighting hard, the pair were unable to take home the victory, losing in three sets.
JT Corr and Dallas Hitchens were the second group of Warriors competing. The pair went 2-1 in pool play, beating Daemen’s third team 21-17 and 21-13, and Lindenwood in three sets, 21-23, 21-19, and 15-11. Corr and Hitchens lost their first match in the single elimination tournament, placing 17th.
Tanner Best and Trent Massey were the third and final pair competing for the Warriors over the weekend. They went 3-0 in pool play, beating the Island Boys 21-10 and 21-9, Vassar’s second team in three, 21-13, 14-21, and 15-11, and Wentworth Tech 21-17,14-21, and 15-11. Best and Massey lost in their first single elimination tournament match to finish in ninth place.
After the tournament, Head Coach Savannah Siegrist was proud of her athletes and how they competed to open the year.
“I am very excited about the level of play we are already at, and I’m excited to grow our abilities as good partners and teammates. I am proud of everyone that competed and excited to get the full team competing.”
The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday, September 21st when they travel to St. Petersburg, Florida for the Sunshine State Outdoor Volleyball Association tournament.
