Our K9 Dream Team for this week is D/S Giles and K9 Reno!
Reno turns two in October, and is a ball of German Shepherd energy! Deputy Sheriff Giles has been with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office for five years. He and Reno, one of our newer dynamic duos, partnered up in December of 2023, and have been kicking and wagging tail ever since. Their pre-work ritual is to share a Slim Jim before they start their shift every night.
Here’s a story of one of their recent arrests:
Our deputies were patrolling the Southwest district around 11 PM when they saw a Nissan rolling around that was reported stolen out of Lakeland. A 34-year old woman from Winter Haven, decided that when our deputies pulled her over, she was going to run away. We understand why she wanted to run – she was driving a stolen vehicle, and had trafficking amounts of meth on her. She pulled over and popped the door open, ready to run, when she saw Giles and Reno.
Reno hollered at her, and she quickly decided against running. She later told Giles that she admired the dog’s powers of persuasion.
Our deputies were able to recover the stolen car and seize over 15 grams of meth. Thank you D/S Giles and Reno for catching this criminal and getting her off the streets!
