Suspect In Stabbing Has Been Arrested

AVON PARK — The suspect in a stabbing that took place on Main Street in Avon Park Thursday morning is in jail.

Adolfo Herrera Martinez, 22, was taken into custody Thursday evening after being identified by the 27-year-old victim. The victim said he considered Martinez a friend and had no idea why Martinez approached him in the 300 block on Main Street and stabbed him multiple times sometime around 4 a.m.

The victim ran away and lost consciousness. He was discovered lying shortly before 6:30 a.m. a short distance away from the scene of the stabbing. He suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a trauma center. At last report, he was expected to survive.

The knife and the victim’s cell phone were located hidden near the scene.

Martinez said he did not remember the incident. He is charged with attempted second-degree homicide, robbery, and tampering with evidence and is being held without bond.
