Polk Deputies Nab Contractor for Shoddy Work And Fraud: ‘Mr. Small’ Brought To Justice

Well, we didn’t capture Mr. Big…but we did get Mr. Small.

Back in late February, the PCSO was notified by a Fort Meade couple who said that the work done on their driveway was shoddy.

They said that 51-year old Myer Roy Small of Polk City showed up at their home in December and told them that his company, Road Pros Asphalt, LLC had some leftover asphalt from another job, and he could use it to pave their driveway at a reduced rate.

The couple thought it sounded like a good deal, so they paid Small to have the work done. Unfortunately, the work was very poor. And when the victims tried to contact Mr. Small, he evaded their attempts.

PCSO detectives had better luck getting in touch with Mr. Small.

Their investigation determined that Small’s limited liability company was formally dissolved in September of 2024.

The good news for the victims is that they were given a full refund of their $40,000 payment on March 18th.

Regardless, the detectives continued their investigation, and found that Mr. Small was not maintaining workers compensation insurance, as required, for his employees.

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Mr. Small, and about a week ago, he was arrested in Clermont County, Ohio.

Mr. Small was extradited to Polk County, and on Wednesday, April 23rd, Myer Roy Small was officially Arrested By The Polk County Sheriff’s Office. He was charged with Failure to Secure Workers Compensation Insurance and Conducting Home Solicitation without a Permit.

Please let this be a reminder to always research businesses and workers before hiring them. An online search of “Road Pros Asphalt” shows numerous scathing reviews of the business and their work. An online search of “Myer Small mugshot” returned a previous arrest in another state for similar crimes.
