Last week, South Florida State College celebrated the Marine Corps 249th birthday on the Highlands Campus with a celebration that included slicing the cake with a real mameluke sword, setting a Missing Man’s table, and the Passing of the Cake ceremony where the most senior Marine in attendance will cut the cake and pass it to the most junior Marine in attendance. The most senior Marine was former SFSC District Board of Trustees member Gary Delatore from Wauchula.
Dr. Teresa Crawford, director of SFSC’s Hardee Campus, was the guest of honor for this event as she will be retiring from SFSC in January 2025. Rob Hampton, director of the Career Development Center, served as the emcee for the event.
Happy 249th Birthday, Marine Corps!
