Proactive Deputies Recover Stolen Vehicle, Arrest Two Wanted Men in Leesburg

On April 24, 2025, Lake County deputies were proactively patrolling in the area of CR 473, Leesburg, when they observed a stolen vehicle reported out of Tavares. As deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle immediately turned off on a side street and came to a stop. The driver, later identified as the defendant, Darius Bentley, quickly exited the vehicle and began to walk away from it.  Deputies converged on the vehicle and took Bentley into custody. Once identified, deputies discovered that Bentley was wanted for four Writs of Bodily Attachment for Child Support and was driving on a suspended license. Additionally, deputies discovered that one of the two passengers remaining in the vehicle, Anthony Sweet Jr., had an active warrant for Domestic Battery by Strangulation. Bently and Sweet Jr. were arrested and charged accordingly. The proactive efforts by the deputies allowed for the victim’s stolen vehicle to be recovered.
