LEESBURG, Fla. (Volleyball) – The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) volleyball team played split a pair of Sun-Lakes Conference matches last week. The Lakehawks recorded the road win over Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) 3-1 on Thursday with a tough 3-2 loss to St. Johns River State College (SJRSC) on Friday.
Lake-Sumter 3, FSCJ 1
The Lakehawks travled to Jacksonville on Thursday for their first matchup of the season against FSCJ. The Lakehawks and the Manta Rays split the first two sets before Lake-Sumter took the final two for the 3-1 victory.
Sophomore setter Emily Warner led the team with 27 assists and 17 digs. Freshman Anna Evans added 11 kills and 13 digs to the win.
Lake-Sumter 2, SJRSC 3
Following their win on Thursday over the Manta Rays, the Lakehawks were pumped up for a home match against long-time rival SJRSC.
The Lakehawks fought back from a two-set lead by the Vikings, forcing the match to five sets. Unfortunately, the Vikings edged out the win in set five 15-12 to take the match.
Warner recorded 41 assists and 14 digs. Evans, Sydni Hunter, Mariana Comartin, and Victoria Whitaker each had double digit kills.
The Lakehawks move to a 6-6 overall record with a 2-5 record in Sun-Lakes Conference play. Lake-Sumter currently ranks eighth in conference standing after seven matches.
