Lakehawk Golf Falls Short in Close Match Against Eastern Florida

The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) golf team hosted their first home match at Green Valley Country Club in Clermont, Fla. against Eastern Florida State College (EFSC) last week. After a close battle, the Lakehawks fell just short to the Titans 316 strokes to 322.

Tripp Watkins and Nate Williams led the team and the competition each posting scores of 76, each earning their first-career wins with co-medalist honors.

Head Coach Meredith Yaun shared her thoughts on the team’s second outing against a very successful EFSC men’s golf program, “I am proud of our guys for sticking with the game plan and playing one shot at a time. The course played difficult with the pin locations and wind swirling through the oak trees on multiple holes.”

“We were just shy of victory, but I do believe that we won with our drive to never give up; we put ourselves in position to win and that is a huge success. We will learn from this event and will be prepared for the next opportunity,” said Coach Yaun.

The Lakehawks will be back at Green Valley on Nov. 11 for a dual match with New College of Florida to round out the fall season.
