Ryan Christopher Bass, 43, was probably hoping it was just an April Fool’s Day prank yesterday when he found out what the Special Victims Unit had been able to find on his computer, despite his best efforts to hide it.
Bass, who was already in jail after being arrested on March 28, was arrested again Tuesday on 555 child pornography charges. His bond has been set at $2.83 million.
On Friday, March 28, the SVU got a tip that Bass had child pornography on his computer. Later that same day, a search warrant was executed at his home on Hallmark Avenue in Lake Placid. By that time, Bass was already on his way to jail for a domestic battery charge.
When detectives discovered Bass’ computer, it was clear that Bass knew he was in trouble because an attempt had been made to wipe all the incriminating files off the device. The computer was seized, and a forensic examination of the hard drive revealed enough evidence to charge Bass with the child pornography counts.
Detectives also found a gun that was linked to Bass, who is a convicted felon.
In addition to the child pornography and domestic violence charges, Bass is also facing charges of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, failure to register as a convicted felon, use of a two-way device to facilitate a felony and destruction of evidence.
Note: Not all arrests result in convictions. Everyone is considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
