On Tuesday, March 25, 2025, LakelandPD officers were called to the Lakeland Square Mall for a group who were scheming to scam people by offering to play a shell game. The group would act as a team. A couple of them would pretend to be unassociated players and win the game to draw people in to play as well. However, this is always a losing game if you’re not part of their group.
After witnessing their tactics, officers arrested Curtis Herron (age 39 of Pennsylvania), Tyrone Fate (age 34 of North Carolina), John Campbell (age 31 of Pennsylvania) and Yolimar Garcia (age 33 of North Carolina). Over $13,000 was seized from the group who were preying upon unwitting participants. All were charged with Engaging in Gambling. Herron, Campbell and Fate were charged with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Narcotic Paraphernalia.
If you believe you have been taken advantage of by this group please contact Detective Sean Mulderrig at 863.899.5924 or sean.mulderrig@lakelandgov.net.
