Lake County Mourns Loss Of Reserve Deputy Sheriff Dennis Bootle

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved friend and co-worker, Reserve Deputy Sheriff Dennis Bootle. Dennis passed away last night at AdventHealth Waterman after suffering an off-duty medical emergency at his home early Tuesday morning.

Dennis’ lifelong commitment to law enforcement was evident. He retired as a Detective Sergeant after 34 years of dedicated service with the New York City Police Department, during which he survived being in one of the Twin Towers when it collapsed on September 11. He later joined our family as a volunteer and after a short while, became a reserve deputy, capping off his illustrious career by spending 13 years as a cold case detective in our Homicide Unit.

Prior to his law enforcement service, Dennis served his country in the United States Army as a member of the 101st Airborne Division in the Vietnam War. He received the Bronze Star and two Purple Heart medals for his outstanding service.

Dennis was well loved and greatly appreciated by all those who were fortunate enough to know him and serve alongside him, and he will be greatly missed. We ask that you keep his family and friends in prayer for God’s peace and comfort during this difficult time.

Information on service arrangements will be provided once those details have been determined by the family.
