Hillsborough County Commissioners Vote to Direct $60 Million in Reserve Funds to Hurricane Milton Debris Relief

Hillsborough County, Fla. (Oct. 23, 2024) – The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners on Wednesday voted unanimously to transfer $60 million from the Catastrophic Disaster Recovery Fund reserves to fund debris removal and other emergency protective measures costs related to Hurricane Milton.

The commissioners can transfer funds from the reserves when an emergency has been declared. Hillsborough County remains under a local state of emergency.

It is anticipated that the County’s costs for eligible debris removal and emergency protective measures will be reimbursed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

This budget amendment reduces Catastrophic Disaster Recovery Fund reserves by $60 million (from $122,953,980 to $62,953,980) and appropriates the $60 million within the BOCC – FEMA Hurricane Milton – Disaster Events Fund.
