The Highlands County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that took place at a basketball court on Fred Conner Street in Avon Park on Monday night.
Multiple 911 calls about the shooting came into dispatch at 6:18 p.m.
When deputies arrived, they found an adult male lying on the ground. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
There were numerous witnesses to the shooting, and detectives are in the process of identifying them and following up on leads that have been generated.
