Captain Darren Goryl Celebrates 30-year achievement with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office

Captain Goryl began his career as an Auxiliary Officer on October 26, 1994 while attending the Correctional Academy. After graduating, he became a Detention Deputy and worked in inmate housing and booking. He was later assigned to the Transportation Department and then assigned as a Classification Officer. In April 2004, he was promoted to Sergeant, supervising both booking and housing. In June 2007, he was promoted to Lieutenant as Shift Commander until January 2020. He was then promoted to Captain of Jail Security, where he led from the frontlines during the COVID pandemic and eventually was assigned to Support Services.

Captain Goryl holds a master’s degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix and a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Rhode Island College, and he graduated from the Senior Leadership Programs 16th Class in 2013. Captain Goryl’s dedication has left a lasting impact on the department and community.
