Fire Fall To Gyrenes In Conference Opener

AVE MARIA, FLA. – Ave Maria found the back of the net on back-to-back first half shots and beat the Fire, 2-0.

The Fire were unable to get anything going on offense. Izzy Tomlinand Ariadna Lozano had SEU shots on goal in the first 9:54 of the match, but the Gyrenes only allowed SEU a single shot on goal in the final 79 minutes of play.

The Gyrenes out-shot the Fire 19-10, with Claire Wrobleski connecting on shots at 13:47 and again at 18:38 to give Ave Maria their two-goal lead.

Madison Songer stopped all three shots she faced in 61 minutes of work, while Ella Sebree had two saves in 29 minutes.

With the loss, the Fire fall to 1-3-1 (0-1). They return home on Wednesday, when they face No. 2 Keiser University. First touch is at 7 p.m. at the SEU Soccer Complex.
