Polk State Volleyball showed it could compete with elite competition on Saturday. The Eagles fell in straight sets but made No. 17 Daytona State College work in the 3-0 defeat.
After 25-18 and 25-19 sets early on Saturday, the Falcons needed extra points to prevail in the third. Daytona State was able to outlast the Eagles (4-7, 0-6 Citrus Conference) 27-25 to clinch the match.
Ella Lopez had another double-double for Polk State with 11 kills and 16 digs — both team-highs. Lopez added two service aces and was among several Eagles who had commendable performances on Saturday.
Isabella Pedrosa, Deyja Tshibangu, and Daryangelis Torres Arbelo each finished with five kills. Tshibangu and Erianys Soto were each a force at the net for the Eagles, finishing with three solo blocks apiece.
Alexia Ortiz Munoz and Sophia Torres tied for the team lead with 12 assists each. Torres tied Lopez with a team-high two aces.
Polk State will have a busy week this week with three matches in six days.
