City Advances Projects to Prevent Flood Risks

The Public Works and Engineering Department is working on two projects to improve stormwater management in the Bermuda Estates and Lyndell Street areas. These initiatives are part of the ongoing efforts to protect neighborhoods from flooding and support recovery from past events, including Hurricane Ian.

These improvements are made possible through a $250,000 allocation from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The funding will support upgrading stormwater pipes and installing new yard drains and curb inlets.

Project Highlights:

Lyndell Street Drainage Improvements: Construction is tentatively scheduled to commence in early September and will focus on enhancing the existing drainage system.

Bermuda Estates Drainage Enhancements: Design work for this project is nearing completion, with construction expected to start in September/October. This project will address flood-prone areas by upgrading the stormwater system, including new pipes and strategically placed drains.

“System improvements will reduce the likelihood of future flooding,” said Public Works and Engineering Director Ashley Willis. “We appreciate the state’s support for the funding that has made this critical flood prevention project possible.”
