Lakehawk Volleyball’s 2024 Schedule Revealed

LEESBURG, Fla. (Volleyball) – The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) volleyball team has revealed their schedule for the 2024 regular season. The Lakehawks have a 26-match schedule, with 15 matches to be hosted at The Hawk’s Nest.

The Lakehawks finished the 2023 season with a 15-12 record and 7-6 in Sun-Lakes Conference play. They finished the season sixth in conference ranking with two all-conference and all-region selections.

With the new arrival of Indian River State College at the at the Division II level, the Sun-Lakes Conference is now comprised of 11 teams. Teams will all meet twice in the regular season, for a total of 22 matches, to determine post-season placement.

The Lakehawks will open the 2024 season at home co-hosting a Friday/Saturday tournament with St. Johns River State College (SRJRC).

On Friday, Aug. 23, the Lakehawks will play Bishop State Community College at 1:00 p.m. and USC Lancaster at 5:00 p.m. On Saturday, matches will be against No. 16 Cape Fear Community College at 1:00 p.m. and College of Southern Maryland at 5:00 p.m.

Lake-Sumter will open regular season conference play on Sept. 6 and Sept. 7 at home with Gulf Coast State College and 2023 Sun-Lakes Conference Champion No. 4 Pensacola State.

After a 22-match conference slate, the top-six teams will earn a spot in the 2024 Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) Division II Championship, which will be hosted at Pensacola State College on Nov. 8-9.

Head Coach Alisha Wintersdorf, entering her first year with the Lakehawks, shared her thoughts on the 2024 preseason, “As we head into this season, I am incredibly proud of the dedication and hard work our team has shown during the preseason.”

“Our athletes have already put in countless hours, focusing on the little things that make the big things happen; this attention to detail has been central to our preparation and is a key aspect of our strategy moving forward.”

“As I embark on my first year as head coach of the Lakehawks, we have high expectations and a lot to prove. I am confident that our preparation and commitment to the fundamentals will translate into a successful season and I am excited to see what we can achieve together,” said Coach Wintersdorf.
