Understanding The Difference

As we prepare to return to school next week, we want to remind the community about what School Resource Deputies (SRD’s) and Guardians do.

SRD’s are Polk County Sheriff’s Office employees. Guardians are Polk County Public School employees that are trained by the PCSO. Both are present on campuses to handle threats against students & the school. They are armed, and well-trained in how to quickly and safely eliminate threats to the safety of students and staff.

Although you will see them around during morning drop-offs & afternoon pick-ups, they are NOT present to direct traffic. Please defer to the direction of school staff & crossing guards, who are present at these times to ensure safe & smooth drop-offs and pick-ups.
