Traffic Stop in Leesburg Leads to Drug Arrests After K-9 Alert and Passenger Confession

On April 7, 2025, a Lake County deputy was actively patrolling in the area of CR 473, Leesburg, when he initiated a traffic stop for a speeding violation. A Lake County K-9 responded and gave a positive alert to an odor of narcotics inside the vehicle. Inside the vehicle, deputies located a plastic baggie with a pink powdery substance in the driver’s door and two additional baggies of pink powder on the passenger side. The substance field tested positive for methamphetamine. The passenger, Genoveva Sweeney, spontaneously uttered that the narcotics belonged to her. Post Miranda, Sweeney admitted to having additional narcotics concealed on her person and produced a glass smoking device, pills she identified as Suboxone, and a green leafy substance. When the deputy initiated the traffic stop, Sweeney stated that the driver, James White, had given her the items to conceal on her person. White and Sweeney were transported to the Lake County Jail and charged accordingly.
