Polk State Volleyball Swept In Melbourne

Polk State Volleyball had some promising moments on Wednesday night, but not enough to take a set at Titan Field House. No. 18 Eastern Florida State College secured the sweep of the Eagles, 3-0.

The first set proved to be the most competitive as Eastern Florida State emerged with a 25-20 victory. The second was the most lopsided as Polk State fell 25-16.

The Eagles started strong in the third set, taking an early 9-5 lead. Eastern Florida responded with a 6-1 run to take the lead. It outscored Polk State 20-8 to close the set and win it by a 25-17 score.

Ella Lopez and Sofia Sanchez each recorded double-doubles for Polk State (3-4, 0-3 Citrus Conference). Lopez finished with 16 kills and 10 digs. Sanchez tallied 20 assists and 10 digs.

Isabella Pedrosa also had a strong night for the Eagles, finishing with seven kills and 10 digs. Eastern’s Dominae Jordan led the Titans with 11 kills.

Polk State will try to snap a three-match losing streak on Friday when it returns home to wrap up non-conference play against the University of South Carolina at Sumter. Match time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
