On August 31, 2024, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from two hikers who stated they had been lost for multiple hours in the Rock Springs Run Reserve State Park. Deputies began canvassing the park based on coordinates the Lake County Communication Center provided. The subjects did not have a phone signal, and their phones eventually died. Due to the terrain, Lake County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit and Florida Fish and Wildlife were requested and responded. While canvassing, deputies instructed the hikers to utilize a whistle they had in their possession. The resources used by deputies and their search efforts allowed both subjects to be located in good health.
