Major I-4 Overhaul: New Lanes and Express Improvements Coming Sooner Than Expected

The section of I-4 that often has the worst congestion in central Florida—if not the entire state—is under a complete overhaul through the Moving Florida Forward Initiative. More than 14 miles of I-4 from west of U.S. 27 in Polk County to east of S.R. 536 in Orange County will have additional lanes, expanded express lanes, and enhanced interchanges to reduce congestion.

Thanks to our good state stewardship, these improvements will be completed decades ahead of the original plans.

And as an added measure of congestion relief, FDOT teams are already at work to add new lanes that will provide immediate congestion relief while construction is underway on the rest of the project.
