Lakehawk Cross Country Competes in ERAU Cross Country Classic

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Cross Country) – The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the Embry-Riddle Cross Country Classic over the weekend in Daytona Beach, Fla. The men’s race kicked off first at 7:20 a.m. followed by the women’s race at 7:50 a.m.

Spencer Palmer continues to lead the Lakehawks, posting an 8,000-Meter (8K) time of 28:30.5. Palmer recorded the fastest 8K time of the junior college runners competing.

Sophomore Connor Parrish finished second for the Lakehawks with an 8K time of 29:48.6, less than a minute away from his collegiate personal record (PR) time recorded in the 2023 season.

In the women’s race, Oksanna Smith recorded a new collegiate 5,000-Meter (5K) PR of 23:15.2, shaving off 17 seconds from the season opener race at UCF in August.

In addition to Smith, Kristina Varada and Sade Lee recorded 5K PRs. Lee shaved off six minutes and 46 seconds while Varada took off nearly five minutes from their previous best times.

The Lakehawks will train for the next two weeks before hitting the road for the FSU Cross Country Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla. on Friday Oct. 11.
