Highlands County Jail Breaks Ground On First Expansion In Twenty Years

The first expansion of the Highlands County Jail in 20 years officially broke ground. The 100-bed facility will be built to the east of the current jail and give our Detention Bureau some much-needed space.

Sheriff Paul Blackman would like to thank everyone on the HCSO and Board of County Commissioners staff, as well as architects Clemons, Rutherford & Associates, and Ajax Building Company for all the hard work that has gotten us ready to begin construction.

Work is expected to be completed in early 2026.
