Eustis Elementary celebrates 100 years of “Continuing Our Legacy” on Saturday, March 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the school campus at 714 E. Citrus Avenue.
All families, friends, teachers, staff and alumni were invited to attend.
Eustis Mayor Willie Hawkins opened the festivities in front of the school at 10 a.m. with the reading of a proclamation. The celebration continued with historical tours, performances, games, food, music, art and more!
“Eustis Elementary has served so many in our community for so many years, and it continues to be a bright light in the lives of our children and families,” Principal Reanna Boardway said, adding that many local families have had generations of students enrolled at the school — current students, their parents and their grandparents. Additionally, some who were once students have come back to teach or serve on staff.
“There’s just so much history here,” she said. “We may have a small school, but we have a lot of family, and they come and support us.”
Looking ahead, the school is due for some much needed upgrades. Community meetings are scheduled to discuss potential changes, including additional space and technological improvements.
But for now, the community is looking back over a history that they say brings them great pride.
“When you think about leading a school that has helped raise generations of kids, you really want to do it justice,” Boardway said. “With this celebration, we really want to honor the history and invite as many people who have been a part of this school or have been affected by the teachers and the staff of this school to come back and celebrate with us.”
