Drug dealer facing lengthy prison stay

A Lake Placid drug dealer who was arrested after a 2022 search warrant at his home uncovered a huge stash of drugs has been sentenced to serve at least 25 years in state prison.

Ezzard Charles Dixon, 49, was actually sentenced to 210 years overall yesterday (July 29) after being convicted of 11 felonies, but the sentences will run concurrently to his 40-year sentence for armed fentanyl trafficking, which comes with a 25-year mandatory minimum sentence.

Members of the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression Unit served a search warrant at Dixon’s home on Abel Rd. NW in Lake Placid on Sept. 20, 2022. Inside the home, they located 56 grams of fentanyl, 35.2 grams of methamphetamine, 139.4 grams (one-third of a pound) of cocaine, 70 grams of oxycodone pills and 2.7 pounds of marijuana. They also found five guns, a large amount of cash and various items associated with the sale of illegal narcotics.

In addition to the armed fentanyl trafficking conviction, Dixon was also convicted of armed trafficking of cocaine (sentenced to 30 years), armed trafficking of methamphetamine (30 years), armed trafficking of phenethylamines (30 years), armed trafficking of heroin (30 years), possession of a structure used to traffic drugs (15 years), possession of oxycodone (5 years), possession of marijuana with intent to sell (5 years), delivery of drug paraphernalia (5 years), possession of a weapon by a convicted felon (15 years), and possession of alprazolam (5 years).
