Boys & Girls Clubs of Polk County Surpasses One Million Meals Served, Aiming for TwoMillion in the Fight Against Hunger

Bartow, FL – June 19, 2024 – In an extraordinary testament to community service and dedication, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Polk County announces a monumental achievement: serving over one million free meals to club members and their families, including collaborations with Girls Inc. and other community organizations.

This significant milestone, made possible through the state-of-the-art kitchen facility at the Joe L. Saunders Unit in Bartow, underscores the organization’s unwavering commitment to combating food insecurity and ensuring no child goes hungry.

Under the adept leadership of Kitchen Director Kacy Keim and bolstered by the State’s meal reimbursement program, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Polk County has not only met but exceeded its goal to provide nutritious meals to those in need. “Hunger is simply unacceptable in our community,” says Keim. “We are proud of our role in combating food insecurity as part of our daily program. Two million meals, here we come!”

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Polk County operates ten clubs serving up to 4,000 members daily, with the kitchen staff working tirelessly behind the scenes. These meals are more than just food; they are a beacon of hope, offering nutrition, care, and an opportunity for a better future for the children and families of Polk County.

This achievement is a collaborative effort, reflecting the hard work of countless staff, volunteers, and community partners. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Polk County is committed to continuing this vital service, with plans to expand its reach and impact even further.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support of our community and partners in reaching this milestone,” said Steve Giordano, CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Polk County. “Our mission goes beyond just feeding the hungry; it’s about nurturing our community’s future, one meal at a time. Together, we are making a profound difference in the lives of our youth and their families.”

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Polk County invites the community to join in their mission through volunteering, donations, or spreading the word. Together, we can make the goal of two million meals served a reality.
