Corey Tufts made his mark as a standout player for the East Ridge High School baseball team from 2008 to 2011. His stats speak volumes about his dominance on the mound. With a career ERA of just 1.13 and a single-season ERA record of 0.74, Tufts established himself as a formidable pitcher during his high school tenure. He made 19 appearances in a single season, not only breaking records but also leading his team to victories.
One of the highlights of his high school career was achieving the second no-hitter in East Ridge history, an unforgettable nine-inning game against rival South Lake High School. With a record of 5-2, 6 saves, and a staggering 133 strikeouts over 80.1 innings, Tufts was recognized as a two-time Team Cy Young winner in 2010 and 2011—a testament to his skill and perseverance.
Former East Ridge Baseball Head Coach David Bultema said, “The growth and development of Corey from his freshman year to his senior year was absolutely remarkable! His last two years at East Ridge, Corey gave us a chance to win every time he took the mound. He was always a student of the game and willing to lead the younger guys, which is so important when it comes to building a championship program.”
After graduating from East Ridge, Tufts continued to excel at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University from 2012 to 2016. As a three-year starter, he amassed a commendable all-time record of 23-11, pitching a total of 248.2 innings with an ERA of 3.55. His tenure at Embry-Riddle was marked by significant achievements, including four conference championships and three World Series appearances.
Tufts solidified his legacy in college baseball by ranking eighth all-time in career wins, ninth in innings pitched, and fifth in career strikeouts at Embry-Riddle. In 2014, he earned Second Team All-Conference honors, further cementing his reputation as a top-tier player.
Corey’s passion for baseball extends beyond his playing days. In 2017, he returned to East Ridge as the Head JV Coach and Varsity Assistant, where he continues to inspire the next generation of players. His commitment to coaching reflects not only his love for the game but also his dedication to the development of young athletes.
For nearly seven years, Tufts has also been involved with the Team Orlando Travel Youth Baseball Organization, where he shares his wealth of knowledge and experience with aspiring players. His impact on the community is felt deeply, as he fosters a love for the sport among youth in Clermont and beyond.
Corey has been married to his wife Elizabeth for four years but they have been together for 15 since high school. They have a 1 year old daughter Brooklyn. Corey currently works as a Sales Team Manager for Ferguson Enterprises, balancing his professional career with his passion for baseball and family life.
Corey Tufts’ induction into the East Ridge Hall of Fame is a well-deserved honor that recognizes his exceptional achievements and enduring influence on the sport of baseball. As a player, coach, and community leader, he continues to inspire those around him, ensuring that the legacy of East Ridge baseball thrives for years to come. Congratulations Corey and the Tufts family!
