Highlands County Fire Rescue Conducts Its Monthly Technical Rescue Team (TRT) Training Exercise

Highlands County Fire Rescue conducted its monthly Technical Rescue Team (TRT) training exercise near Station 19. Firefighters participated in scenario-based training that focused on handling leaking and damaged propane tanks.

During propane leaks, or when tanks are too damaged to be safely moved, firefighters connect the tanks to a burn-off tower. The tower safely ignites the propane, allowing it to burn in a controlled manner, preventing harm to people or structures.

In this exercise, firefighters identified signs of propane leaks, safely connected tanks to the tower, ignited the tower to burn off the propane, and managed any excess flames produced.

Pictured are Firefighters J. Hernandez and J. Wooten, who demonstrated outstanding teamwork and professionalism during the drill. Special thanks to Training Chief Brett Hogan for his continued leadership in organizing and supervising these vital monthly exercises, as well as to our dedicated Hazmat team. A special shoutout to those who quickly responded to a potential hazmat call mid-training, showing once again their commitment to protecting the people of Highlands County
