A lot of crimes are committed out of anger or greed. And then you have the kind of crime that 31-year old Carlos Borjas Pineda of Davenport is accused of, which got him #ArrestedByThePolkCountySheriffsOffice on Sunday, March 2nd. You could call it a facepalm crime.
PCSO deputies responded to the Sandy Ridge neighborhood (which is very grassy, not at all sandy) in Loughman (Davenport) at around 1:45pm, after a bullet hole was found on a house and a privacy fence.
During the investigation, it was learned that residents heard gunshots at around 3:00 that morning, but nobody called it in to the PCSO at that time.
The deputies made contact with Carlos at his home…where several shell casings were found on the ground. He appeared very nervous and called 9-1-1 while deputies were right in front of him. He claimed he was being harassed.
When deputies asked him for ID, he refused to identify himself.
Then the deputies made contact with a witness who said that she confronted Carlos at 3 am about him shooting within the lanai.
During an interview with detectives, Carlos claimed he found a gun at Bike Week in Daytona on Saturday, and just decided to fire it off a few times inside his patio. The gun was indeed had been reported lost to Orlando PD.
This doesn’t seem like such a difficult choice when you find a gun:
1. Turn the gun over to law enforcement immediately
2. Take it home, and shoot it inside a lanai at 3am.
Carlos Borjas Pineda was arrested and taken to the Polk County Jail, and charged with: Shooting into Dwelling (2 Counts), Discharging Firearm in Residential Area, Criminal Mischief, Misuse of 911 and Resisting without Violence.
